Day 04 (July 12)

VIENNA - DÜRNSTEIN - ALTAUSSEE

Today we are starting to drive west and our first stop will be Dürnstein Castle, located on the Danube river. It is quite an impressive ruin of a medieval castle, which was built in the early 12th century. It once imprisoned English King Richard the Lionheart. The spectacular viewpoint is well worth the short-, but rather steep walk up to the ruins.

Dürnstein is famous for its production of apricots and grapes. The charming town is full of colorful houses and cozy wine taverns.

In the afternoon we continue to the small village of Altaussee. It is located at one of the most scenic lakes in Austria with its crystal-clear water surrounded by the amazing mountain landscape.
